Mangalore Biotech Laboratory has facilities for PCR based detection of medically important pathogens like
cytomegalovirus, herpes virus, Epstein Barr virus, rotavirus, norovirus, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Leptospira,
facilities for microbiology, serology and biochemistry based medical diagnostics. Under medical diagnostics section,
MBL has a biosafety cabinet, PCR lab with facilities for sample preparation, DNA extraction, PCR and post PCR gel based
detection of products. We have facility and expertise in early detection of bacterial pathogens in blood using 16S rRNA
sequence based PCR.
MBL has multichannel ELISA plate reader, spectrophotometer, microscope,
centrifuge and other facilities. We are specializing in tests that are routinely not
done in many other medical diagnostic laboratories.
At Mangalore Biotech Laboratory, we are constantly trying to innovate in biotechnologies. The Research and Development Wing has researchers, who are trying to develop research leads that can eventually be commercialized. R&D facilities include microbiological, chemical and molecular biology facilities.
Mangalore Biotech Laboratory has an excellent state of the art laboratory to deliver analytical service in the area of microbiology, chemistry and biochemistry, biotechnology and environmental science. As per NABL requirement, the equipments are regularly calibrated and well maintained. The facilities include level III biosafety cabinet for handling pathogens, laminar flow cabinet, incubator and BOD incubator, water bath, spectrophotometer, thermocycler, electrophoresis system, turbidometer, -80°C deep freezer, -20°C deep freezer, refrigerated centrifuge, analytical balance, microscopes and other required equipments. MBL is constantly upgrading and modernizing the facilities to deliver high quality service on par with international standards.
The facilities are designed to meet analysis of most of the microbiological and chemical parameters covered in Food Safety and Standard Regulation of 2011 and waste water parameters desired by Central and State Pollution Control Board. MBL has also facilities and expertise to perform testing of sanitation and hygiene in food preparation, food serving areas and in food served to customers, air and water testing for medical areas.
MBL has facilities for PCR based detection of shrimp viruses, aquaculture related pathogens and food borne pathogens. MBL has been successfully participating in ring test for PCR based detection of WSSV conducted by the Central Institute of Brackish Water Aquaculture (CIBA, ICAR) and Rajiv Gandhi Center for Aquaculture.
